HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL PERSONS BORN IN
FEBRUARY

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

When you’re tempted to lose patience with
another, think how patient God has been with
you.
The Lord is not slow to do what he has promised, as some think.  Instead, he is
patient with you, because he does not want
all to turn away from their sins.

2 Peter 3:9

FROM THE BOOK TABLE MINISTRY:

Title:  "Justice Older Than the Law: The Life of Dovey Johnson Roundtree"

If you are a history buff or work in the legal field,
you should find this book very enjoyable and informative. Mother Roundtree is a member at
Allen Chapel AME church in Washington, DC.

This book accounts her well-lived life as a
pioneering lawyer, minister, military and
humanitarian who was among the first black female World War II military officers.  Her life story gives
us another view of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt,
Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, Justice Thurgood
Marshall, and other historic icons through her
interaction with them. Though her health has
declined, she is a heartfelt woman whose
humble beginnings reflected the progress of our
race from the 1920s to the 1960s.

She is a graduate of Spelman and won the acquittal of a black man accused
of murdering a close friend of John F. Kennedy and prevailed in the "separate
but equal" interstate bus travel desegregation case.  This book tells what one
determined; unstoppable woman did with her life to change laws and traditions
to make America a better, fairer, and more respectful country. Copies
available for $25
