The mission of Union Bethel AME Church is to provide holistic care and services to individuals and families by addressing the spiritual, physical and mental health needs of those who seek assistance. This multi-site organization provides a vast array of services to members of the community of all ages. The FOCUS program provides a Christian-based education that strives towards building character, providing spiritual growth, and promoting leadership development to children through before- and after-school care and summer programs that provide a safe and secure learning environment.

The Mission Reverend Harry Seawright, pastor of the Union Bethel AME Church in Maryland, is on a mission. That mission is to ensure that the members of his congregation (over 2,000 strong) and the surrounding community have access to vital support services. Since 1996, Reverend Seawright has been laying the foundation for this network through a variety of means; including job placement and training programs, counseling services and health education programs. However, his focus is primarily placed on the care, development, and education of the children in his community. His commitment to the program is reflected in his credo of "changing a generation one child at a time". Access to Services Reverend Seawright established the For Our Children's Unity School (FOCUS) which provides children of all ages with access to a variety of educational programs and activities designed to build self-esteem and social skills in a safe, nurturing environment. As Reverend Seawright states, "the FOCUS program is designed to ensure that young children are given a good, solid foundation to begin their life's journey".
