EDUCATION Related issues were the number one concern. These
issues range from not enough resources, no child left behind agenda to
overcrowding and trailers. Curriculums should be expanded to include
African American studies. Parents need to be more involved in their
children’s education. What happens to the money developers set aside?
Need for recreation services/facilities and mentoring programs.
PUBLIC SAFETY There is a need for a greater visible presence to address
concerns about crime, drugs and gang activity.
LACK
OF COMMUNITY/CONNECTEDNESS
People find it difficult to establish relationships with their
neighbors.
TRANSPORTATION All commuter buses do not have rest room
facilities. Commuter buses are usually overcrowded resulted in
passengers having to stand for long periods of time. Bus services in
Baden should be expanded to accommodate residents who do not have
reliable transportation. Children in Baden area who miss the school bus
usually end up missing an entire day of school.
HEALTHCARE There is a great need for universal and affordable
healthcare as well as social and emotional services.
INFRASTRUCTURE Builders need
to have comprehensive building plans in order to build. Zoning notices
should be more prominently located. Public should become more involved
in issues concerning our communities.
PARENTS Need more support or possibly training to help
navigate issues facing their children. Grandparents who are oftentimes
primary caregivers have very little help or support.
LEGAL SYSTEM Blatant racism in
Charles County. Youth are often harassed.
HOUSING CRISIS/OVERALL FINANCIAL
HEALTH OF OUR COMMUNITY Area of great concern
especially with the great number of foreclosures.
SHOPPING AND BUSINESS There
are no places in southern Prince George’s county of any cultural value
such as upscale shopping or dining.
